Journey overview

One of Egypt’s great days. We prefer the early flight when it fits — more time, less road. Convoy by road remains the classic, cheaper option.

Day by day

Detailed itinerary

Day 1

Temples of Ramses II

A very early start. By flight: more time at the twin temples, less road, back in Aswan late morning. By convoy: the classic desert road, return in the afternoon.

UNESCO’s rescue, four seated colossi, Nefertari’s smaller temple on Lake Nasser. Bring water and a layer for the bus or the predawn airport.

This is one of Egypt’s great days. It is also a tiring one. Plan nothing heroic for the evening.

Questions about this trip

Straight answers from the planning team — ask anything else and we reply within a working day.

How long is a typical day?

Most excursions from Cairo or Luxor are a full day: hotel pickup, visits with a licensed guide, and return in the late afternoon or evening. Abu Simbel from Aswan lists the usual order on the itinerary. Alexandria and Dendera/Abydos are longer road days; say if you prefer an overnight instead.

Is this private or a shared group?

Private cars are the default for published days. Shared departures are used only when you ask for them (for example a Giftun boat or a balloon basket). Tell us how you prefer to travel when you enquire.

Can we combine two excursions?

Sometimes — it depends on geography, opening hours and heat. Giza plus Saqqara is a full, honest day; Giza plus the museum is usually better split. Send the two days you have in mind and we will say what is realistic.

How far in advance should I book?

For winter (October–April) and event dates — festivals, concerts, the 2027 eclipse — book as soon as you can. Shoulder season can often be arranged with a few weeks’ notice. Hotels in Luxor for 2 August 2027 sell out early.

Can this itinerary be customised?

Yes. Abu Simbel from Aswan is a starting point. We adjust days, hotels, meals and extras (Abu Simbel, balloon, a pyramid interior) once we know who is travelling and what you want to skip.

How do payments work?

Published trips can be reserved on the site. For a custom amount we send a secure payment link. You receive written confirmation, inclusions and our cancellation terms before you travel.

Who will be our guide?

A licensed Egyptologist or local specialist, in French or English as you prefer. We introduce them before the day whenever we can. Drivers are not substitutes for guides at ticketed sites.

What about visas, packing and insurance?

Most visitors need a tourist visa (e-visa or on arrival). Pack light layers, modest dress for mosques, and sun protection. Comprehensive medical insurance with evacuation is required and not included. Full notes: visa, packing, health and insurance pages.
