We do not sell insurance and take no commission. We can name insurers used to Egypt; the contract is between you and the underwriter. Without proof of cover we may refuse departure.
1. Why we require it
A fall in a temple, dehydration in Luxor in August, a road incident between Cairo and Alexandria: private care and a possible evacuation add up fast. The European Health Insurance Card does not apply in Egypt. Cover for overseas medical costs and medical evacuation is not an extra — it is a condition of travel, written in our terms.
2. What we ask you to check
- Overseas medical and hospital costs, with a high ceiling.
- Medical evacuation (air ambulance), 24/7.
- Cancellation / curtailment for illness, a relative’s death, and if you want more flexibility a “any reason” add-on.
- Bags and camera / optical gear, especially for the eclipse and concerts.
- Activities on your circuit: balloon, diving, quad, Sinai hiking. Many basic policies exclude them.
- Domestic flights and connections (Cairo–Luxor, Aswan–Cairo) if delayed.
Read the exclusions: sports, epidemics, pregnancy, age. Declare pre-existing conditions. A cheap web policy without evacuation is not enough for us.
3. Giza events and the 2027 eclipse
Starlight, Shakira, ARGY: check that cancellation covers a promoter postponement or cancellation, and that gear (camera, phone) is declared. Nights are long, transfers late — a “leisure activities” clause is usually enough; a festival is not a high-risk sport, but read it anyway.
Eclipse of 2 August 2027 in Luxor: totality depends on the sky. We sell the stay and the logistics, not the sky. A policy that refunds “bad weather” for an astronomical event is rare; illness cancellation, evacuation and optical gear should still be clear. August is hot: dehydration and heatstroke must be covered like any summer stay.
4. If you cancel, and if we do
Our deposit and cancellation scales are in the terms and the cancellation policy. Insurance does not erase those scales: it may, depending on reason and contract, repay you in part or in full. The sooner you buy cover after booking, the more likely an “illness” cancellation is to be accepted.
If we must change a hotel or a boat, we offer an equivalent. Force majeure (a site closure, a government instruction) follows the terms — travel insurance is then your net, not our till.
5. Proof before departure
Send us the insurer’s name, policy number and 24-hour emergency line no later than with the balance. Keep a paper copy in the passport wallet. If something happens, you call the insurer’s assistance first, then us for local logistics.
